La Salle College High School has proved yet again that despite being left off the national rankings, they are always a force to be reckoned with. This time, the Explorers took down Philadelphia rival Roman Catholic, who rank 14th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings.
The score went back and forth throughout the game, but it was Roman who took a 30-26 lead into the half. Midway through the third, the Cahillites built up an eight-point lead. That is when La Salle worked its way back into the game, led by Shawn Witherspoon and Najee Walls.
Witherspoon scored 15 of his game-high 25 points in the second half and Walls finished with 16 points. After working all the way back to within one point when Explorer Dave Krmpotich was set to the line and made both shots, giving La Salle a 56-55 lead.
To compliment Witherspoon’s and Walls’ offensively play, Krmpotich was excellent on defense. Along with his six points, the forward recorded an incredible eight points.
This big win boosts La Salle to the top of PennLive’s Class AAAA boys’ basketball rankings.
The Explorers have another big challenge coming when they face Archbishop Carroll on January 25. Carroll ranks 74th in the nation and third in Pennsylvania.
